When three suppliers share one control

Colleagues collaborating around a laptop

Shared warehouse, shared network segment, shared payroll processor — modern vendor graphs rarely give you one supplier per control. Sending three identical questionnaires creates noise and contradictory answers.

Our ownership mapping module uses a simple rule: one accountable owner for the control family, plus contributing vendors listed with the exact artefact they must supply.

Accountable vs contributing

The accountable owner consolidates answers and confirms completeness inside the coordination app. Contributing vendors receive scoped requests — a diagram, a certificate, a staffing roster — not the entire control narrative.

What to write in the schedule

Label milestones with both roles. “Packaging vendor uploads fire certificate” is clearer than “vendors respond.” Reviewers then know whom to chase for which gap.

This pattern does not remove commercial tension. It does stop three account managers from rewriting the same control story in three tones.
